Gregg Allman Dies After Battle With Liver Cancer, Ex-Wife Cher Mourns Him

The founding member of the Allman Brothers Band has passed away at his house in Savannah, Georgia.

AceShowbiz - Iconic Southern rocker Gregg Allman has passed away. The founding member of The Allman Brothers Band died at his home in Savannah, Georgia "surrounded by his family and friends" after suffering from liver cancer complications. He was 69.

The musician will be laid to rest at Rose Hill cemetery in Macon, Georgia where his bandmates, guitarist Duane Allman and bassist Berry Oakley, are also buried. A funeral date is expected to be announced soon.

Cher, his ex-wife, paid tribute to the rocker. "I've tried...Words are impossible, Gui Gui," she tweeted and signed it with "Chooch." She also posted throwback pictures of her former husband. "Thinking bout funny, crazy, amazing Macon days, dear friend," she wrote in one. "Never forget Giu," she captioned another image that showed their happier days as a couple.

The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr paid homage to the late musician as well. "Rest in peace Greg Allman peace and love to all the family," he wrote on Twitter.

Cher and Gregg Allman married after her bitter split from then-husband Sonny Bono. Cher and Allman had a son named Elijah Blue and recorded a duet album titled "Two the Hard Way". Before his passing, Allman was working on a new solo album entitled "Southern Blood" which hasn't got a release date just yet.
