The 74th annual Golden Globe Awards was kicked off with a little technical glitch during Jimmy Fallon's opening monologue, but it didn't tamper the excitement at the show itself. Presenting the first award were "La La Land" star Emma Stone and "Deadpool" actor Ryan Reynolds. They were on hand to announce the winner of Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role.
The award went to Aaron Taylor-Johnson for his role in "Nocturnal Animals". He surprisingly beat out Mahershala Ali ("Moonlight") and other contenders, including Dev Patel ("Lion"), Jeff Bridges ("Hell or High Water") and Simon Helberg ("Florence Foster Jenkins"), for the title.

The next award to be announced at the ceremony was Best Performance by an Actor in a Drama Series which went to Billy Bob Thornton for his role on Amazon's "Goliath". In his speech, he joked about his longstanding rivalry with "Better Call Saul" star Bob Odenkirk, who was also nominated in the same category, which dated back to their work with Van Johnson in the 1940s.

"Atlanta" later bagged one of the coveted awards at the show, which was Best Musical or Comedy Series. It edged out other strong nominees namely "Black-ish", "Mozart in the Jungle", "Transparent" and "Veep". "I really want to thank Atlanta and all the, like, black folks in Atlanta," said series creator Donald Glover when accepting the award, "Just for being alive."

The Golden Globes continued to celebrate diversity as it honored Tracee Ellis Ross with Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical or Comedy Series for her role on "Black-ish". "This is for all of the women, women of color, and colorful people, whose stories, ideas, thoughts are not always considered worthy and valid and important," said the actress on the stage. "I want you to know I see you, we see you."
