Hamm wins Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role on 'Mad Men' after seven nominations, while Davis nabs the award in her first try for 'How to Get Away with Murder'.

AceShowbiz - Jon Hamm finally earned his first Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series after numerous nominations for his role as Don Draper on "Mad Men". The newly single actor joked about his previous failed attempts, "There has been a terrible mistake, clearly."

Hamm won over other strong contenders such as Jeff Daniels ("The Newsroom"), Bob Odenkirk ("Better Call Saul"), Liev Schreiber ("Ray Donovan") and Kevin Spacey ("House of Cards"). He was actually also nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his guest appearance on "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt", but lost it to Bradley Whitford ("Transparent")

In contrary, Viola Davis managed to take home Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in her first try for playing Annalise Keating on "How to Get Away with Murder". She opened her speech with a quote from Harriet Tubman. " 'In my mind, I see a line. And over that line, I see green fields and lovely flowers and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to me. But I can't seem to get there no how.' That was Harriet Tubman in the 1800s," she said.

The Oscar-nominated actress added, "And the only thing that separates us is opportunity. You can't win an Emmy for roles that simply aren't there. So here's to all the awesome writers, people who have redefined what it to be beautiful, to be black. To the Taraji P. Hensons, Kerry Washingtons, Halle Berrys, Gabrielle Unions, thank you for getting us over that line."
