The hip-hop drama and the Batman prequel are confirmed to return for the second season, while the Andy Samberg-starring comedy will continue with the third installment.

AceShowbiz - FOX announces series renewals. Hip-Hop drama "Empire" is picked up for the second season, Batman prequel "Gotham" will also return for the second cycle, and comedy "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" is renewed for the third installment.

The "Empire" renewal comes after only two episodes. The drama starring Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson has the most-watched debut this season with 9.9 million viewers and 3.8 demo rating. It rises in the second episode with 10.3 million viewers and 4.0 rating, which is a very rare feat.

"Gotham" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" also did quite well. The DC Comics adaptation starring Benjamin McKenzie and Jada Pinkett Smith has averaged a 4.2 rating in adults 18-49 and drawn approximately 10.6 million viewers. Meanwhile, the comedy led by Andy Samberg is averaging a 2.7 among adults 18-49.

Those three series join other returning shows like "Bob's Burgers", "Family Guy", and "The Simpsons". Some others, however, are not so lucky. "Gracepoint" and "Red Band Society" are abandoned after one season each, while John Mulaney's sitcom was bumped to the 7:30 P.M. timeslot on Sunday.
