Jason Mraz was handed with Song of the Year honor at this year's American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) Awards. "Songwriters are crazy people and I'm grateful that there are organizations out there that keep us crazy people in business," he said.

Jason was accompanied with singer/songwriter Tristan Prettyman when coming to the event. He won the award for his worldwide hit "I'm Yours" which is taken from 2008 album "We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things".

The Killers received Vanguard Award at the private dinner ceremony taking place on April 21 at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel. Past winners for the prize included Beastie Boys, Modest Mouse, Nine Inch Nails and Jack Johnson.

Top-notch producer/songwriter Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald, meanwhile, walked home with Songwriting of the Year. His credit include such Most-Performed Songs of the Year as Britney Spears' "Circus", Katy Perry's "Hot N Cold", Kelly Clarkson's "My Life Would Suck Without You", Miley Cyrus' "Party in the USA" and Flo Rida's "Right Round".

Singer/songwriter Patti Smith got Founders Award. She was praised as "a songwriter, poet, trailblazer and rock icon whose creative genius and rock 'n' roll spirit will continue to inspire generations to come" by ASCAP president and chairman Paul Williams.
