The evidence indicates that powerful attorney pulled the strings behind the scenes, manipulating the politician's wife into murdering her husband's ex-lover. Meanwhile, Carrie again crosses paths with her caller 'Fred' (epis 113), who is actually a lawyer by the name of James Morgan. He toys with her and never fully reveals himself, instead dropping subtle hints that help her solve the case at hand. In the end, he gives the indication that he might be able to help her solve her sister's murder.
