Following the safe return of the Iranian hostages, Elaine is riding higher than ever, and D.C. is abuzz with rumors about her potential presidential run. Though she's not ready to take her plan public, Elaine does break the news to the rest of her family, not all of whom are thrilled about the idea.
But unlike certain Hammonds, Bud is enthusiastic about the plan, and heads to the backwoods to meet with a reclusive pollster who can tell them whether Elaine really has a shot at winning. He drags his reluctant sons with him for a father-son fishing trip, where Douglas confronts his father-and some of the old wounds Bud's past behavior have caused.
Meanwhile, concerned about the threat Elaine could pose if she did run against him, President Garcetti devises a plan to get her out of the way: convince Supreme Court Justice Diane Nash, Elaine's law school professor and mentor, to retire, and then nominate Elaine to take her place. Susan Berg gets wind of the plan, and takes the information to Elaine to protect her own story. Armed with knowledge of Garcetti's plan, Elaine must decide just how badly she wants the Presidency-and how many friends and allies she's willing to lose in pursuit of it.
