A childhood friend of Deeks, Ray, turned police informant has slipped out of protective custody and our team rushes to track him down before the man he put away enacts his revenge. Our team staged Ray's murder after Sanders, the crime boss Ray testified against, is convicted. Ray disappears on his way to the airport where he would have been able to step into a new life. Deeks and the team have no idea why he is on the run and it appears that someone is trying to kill him after the car he rented is found shot to pieces but luckily they don't find any traces of his blood. Deeks reluctantly steps back into an old alias he would like to forget named Max Gentry but does so to find Ray. Kensi is equally appalled to see this side of Deeks but his plan works and they find Ray. The moment is fleeting when the same gunman who shot at Ray earlier show up to try to finish the job and Ray disappears again. Deeks hopes Ray's wife can help but our team finds she was the one who tipped off Sanders to Ray's whereabouts after she learned he was cheating on her and got another woman pregnant. It is a race against time to find Ray and his pregnant girlfriend before the gunman do. We find our team in a shootout with the gunman and Ray and his girlfriend are caught in the middle. As they are rushed into an SUV to escape the mayhem it explodes but we soon discover our team faked Ray's death for a second time to satisfy Sanders thirst for revenge and allow Ray and his girlfriend to move on with their lives.
