Tami is lucky to find an open daycare spot for Gracie. But when she gets there, she can't bring herself to leave Gracie with strangers. Carlotta tells Saracen that she has to go home to Guatemala because her family needs her. Released early from juvie, Santiago's old thug pal Devon shows up at school, and urges him to get in the car. Santiago explains that he's got football practice and school. Devon pretends to be happy for Santiago and drives off.

At church, Lyla takes her first crack at radio broadcasting, joining Chris' teen-Christian call-in show. Her first caller is interested in knowing the technical definition of intercourse. When Lyla struggles to answer, Chris picks up, impressing Lyla. Taylor stops by Tami's office to find Glenn holding Gracie as she rushes to a meeting. Admitting that she couldn't leave Gracie with strangers, Tami asks Taylor to watch her for ten minutes so she can go to the meeting.

Noelle tells Smash that her parents want to invite him and his family over for dinner. Devon and his posse convince Santiago to blow off practice and ride with them. They hang out on the street outside Buddy's apartment. Santiago's uncomfortable, and Buddy's not too happy to see the thugs, but he shakes everyone's hand and invites them to come over and hang out later in the week.

Saracen tells Landry that Carlotta is leaving and there's nothing he can do about it, admitting that he's in love with her. Riggins and Herc disguise their voices to call into Lyla's radio show, having a laugh at her expense. When she realizes what's going on, she cuts them off. Street comes in to ask Riggins if this is the way he's trying to show Lyla that he likes her. Later, Lyla stops by Riggins to scold him for making her look like an idiot. She's trying to help people, and he should think about why he does the things he does.

Corinna isn't happy about going to dinner at the Davenports house, but everyone relaxes and has a good time. When the kids run off to play Wii, Noelle's mother Vanessa asks Corinna how she feels about Smash and Noelle. Vanessa admits that they love Smash, it's the world that's the problem, and their relationship scares her. Corinna agrees. Smash maintains that the world has changed, but the adults agree that they would prefer if Noelle and Smash stop dating.

When Tami fails to drop Gracie off at daycare for the third day in a row, Taylor seeks advice from McGill. Taylor wants Tami to quit her job, stay home and raise Gracie, but knows he can't ask her to do something he wouldn't do himself. McGill claims he wouldn't let his woman work with a kid at home. Taylor thinks this sounds stupid and ignorant, and McGill agrees; sometimes the truth sounds stupid.

Lyla and Chris get to know each other and like what they discover. Over dinner, Taylor and Tami discuss their daycare options. Taylor suggests that Tami staying home is an option, making her quite unhappy. The doorbell interrupts. Buddy has brought over a box of his prized possessions. He doesn't want to be judgmental, but he's uncomfortable leaving the stuff in the house with Santiago's thug friends coming over. He's come to seek advice, but decides to bring the stuff back all on his own.

Corinna tries to talk to Smash, but all he has to say is that what she and Noelle's parents did at dinner was stupid and humiliating. Corinna claims she has a right to her opinion. Smash doesn't think she does when she's messing with his life. Carlotta gets ready to attend a quinceañera, and asks Saracen to come. During a slow dance, he tells her that he loves her and doesn't want her to leave. Sadly, Carlotta explains that she has to leave because her family needs her, and they come first.

Buddy is putting his prized possessions back on the mantel when Santiago comes home. Buddy feels terrible, and offers Santiago money to get stuff for the party. Over a bottle of wine, Tami and Taylor discuss their options. Tami's thinking she has to let her job go, but Taylor refuses. Separation anxiety is normal, and studies say that kids who go to daycare are better socialized. With the matter settled, they share a kiss.

Smash takes his sister Noannie to the movies, but chooses a theater in a white neighborhood where he can meet Noelle. When they kiss, Noannie notices the weird looks, and sits alone while Smash and Noelle make out. When a bunch of guys start hassling her, Smash tries to talk to them, but winds up punching a guy and rushing the girls out of the theater.

Santiago's nervous when a ton of people show up at Buddy's and the loud party threatens to range out of control. Afterwards, he cleans up, and notices Buddy's precious watch is missing. He proceeds to Devon's to demand the watch. Devon claims Buddy is only helping Santiago because he wants him to play football, and when it's over he'll drop him. Apologizing that Devon can't be happy he got a break, Santiago fights him for the watch.

Noannie and Smash cry on the way home. He apologizes and asks her not to tell Corinna. Riggins drives, listening to Lyla on the radio, and stops off to buy some flowers. He goes to the radio station, where he spies Chris and Lyla kissing, throws down the flowers and leaves, crushed. Carlotta departs a day early, leaving Saracen a note.

Santiago returns home badly beaten to return the watch to Buddy. Devastated, Buddy checks to make sure Santiago is okay, and offers clean him up. The next morning, Corinna asks Smash and Noannie about the movie. Neither of them mentions what happened. Together, Tami and Taylor drop Gracie off at daycare.
