Jason Momoa's Aquaman Looks Badass in First-Look Pic of Solo Film

The very first photo of the upcoming movie shows our beloved Atlantean King going shirtless, looking sexy yet menacing.

AceShowbiz - The very first photo of James Wan-directed "Aquaman" solo film is here. Making its way out online via Entertainment Weekly, the photo shows Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry a.k.a. the beloved King of Atlantis looking somehow more jacked than the one we saw in "Justice League".

Aquaman can be seen in the photo showing off his full body ink and ripped physique as he goes shirtless, looking sexy yet menacing. Sporting wet-looking long hair, the Aqua God looks frustrated as he appears to be confronting someone off the camera inside a shadowy location.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, director James Wan ("Furious 7", "The Conjuring") explains that the solo film focusing on Arthur Curry is heading toward a new route. "It's going to look very different, it will feel very different -- aesthetically, tonally, story-wise -- it's my own take," he says. "It's a much more a traditional action-adventure quest movie."

Wan goes on saying that "Aquaman has been the joke of the comic book world, but the more I thought about it, the more I thought how cool that would be." He adds, "Let's take the character everybody makes fun of and do something really interesting with him."

Momoa dishes on what to expect from his solo film, saying that it's a tale that spans details of Curry's difficult childhood as a half-human, half-Atlantean to eventually becoming king. The Hawaiian actor tells the publication that " 'Justice League' was only a weekend in Arthur Curry's life. This is a totally different beast."

"In 'Aquaman', you see when his parents met and what happened to hem (sic)," he explains. "Then the little boy being raised and finding his powers and going through that and never being accepted on either side. And then becoming this man who puts up all these walls. You just slowly see this man harden up and be completely reluctant wanting to be king and not knowing what to do with these powers he has. I think James Wan just killed it."

"Aquaman", written by Will Beall, is scheduled to open in U.S. theaters on December 21 next year. Starring alongside Momoa in the upcoming flick are Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm a.k.a. Ocean Master, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as David Hyde a.k.a. Black Manta, and many more.
