The 26-year-old crooner surprised fans when he casually walked to the stage and rhymed Shawn's hit single 'Mercy' in the middle of the gig.

AceShowbiz - Shawn Mendes is currently hitting the road for his "Illuminate Tour" in support of his latest album "Illuminate". During the tour's Brooklyn stop on Wednesday, August 16, the 19-year-old crooner sent the packed crowd at Barclays Center into frenzy as he brought out Ed Sheeran in the middle of his performance.

Rocking bright red shorts and a flannel shirt, the "Shape of You" hitmaker walked casually to the stage while holding an acoustic guitar. He then teamed up with Shawn to belt out "Mercy" as fans kept screaming in excitement throughout the performance.

After the English singer said goodbye and walked off stage, Shawn told the concertgoers, "That was just as crazy for me as it was for you guys." It looked like he was overwhelmed after sharing the stage with his idol. Back in 2014, Shawn tweeted, "To ever meet Ed Sheeran would be honestly be the best, he's 100% the person I look up to for music."

Both Ed and Shawn have been confirmed to be taking the stage at this year's MTV Video Music Awards. It is still unclear whether the two will join forces for a duet at the event, though. Other performers who will perform at the show include Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Fifth Harmony, The Weeknd and 30 Seconds to Mars.

Shawn is slated to perform his newest single "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back" at the VMAs. "I'm really going for all out rock star vibe up there," he recently said. "The whole song spews out energy." Since the song was released in June, it has been a total success in music charts. A few days ago, it landed at No. 1 on Top 40 radio chart.

Fans can expect more music to arrive soon, as Shawn has been working hard on a new album. "We're trying to plan everything so that there's time to make music, too," he previously said. "I'll be writing and recording a lot on the road. I want to make sure I have a good amount of time to create the next album."
