Steven Soderbergh is ending his retirement. Three years after announcing he'd leave the film industry, he's now gearing up to return behind the camera for *"Hillbilly Heist". Variety, which first reported the news, mentions that the Oscar-winning filmmaker has also hired his past collaborators Matt Damon and Channing Tatum to star in the project.
There's still no word on the premise of the film or who penned the script. It, however, has been revealed that Glen Basner will serve as a producer and major studios like Warner Bros., Sony and Fox are already eyeing the movie.
Soderbergh's last film was the Emmy-winning HBO movie "Behind the Candelabra" which also starred Damon. Prior to the film, the director worked with the actor on several other projects like "Ocean's Eleven" (and its two follow-ups), "Contagion" and "The Informant!".
The 53-year-old, who's now focusing on TV, also has a history with Tatum. He has directed the hunk in "Side Effects", which he said a few years ago would be his final feature film, as well as "Haywire" and "Magic Mike".
*UPDATE: After Variety published the article, Soderbergh said in a Twitter post that their story's "wrong." In an update, the site wrote that the correct title for the movie was "Lucky Logan", not "Hillbilly Heist" as they initially reported. Deadline added that it's Michael Shannon, not Matt Damon, who would star alongside Channing Tatum in the project.
