The trailer introduces new feuds as Andre is determined to remove his father Lucious as CEO of Empire Entertainment, and Jamal and Hakeem vow to destroy each other.

AceShowbiz - The first trailer for "Empire" season 2 has been released and it's full of intense standoffs. It opens with Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) visiting Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) in prison, of course with no good intention.

Lucious's eldest son Andre (Trai Byers) is determined to remove Lucious as CEO of Empire Entertainment, and his mother Cookie is backing him up. As Lucious has left his middle son Jamal (Jussie Smollett) in charge of the company, Jamal's relationship with his mother is strained.

Meanwhile, the rivalry between brothers Jamal and Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) is heated up. "I'm going to bury your album," Jamal threatens his younger brother, while Hakeem says, "I'm gonna be bigger than you'll ever be. Bigger than dad, too."

The video also introduces some new faces, including Chris Rock who plays Lucious' fellow inmate, and Marisa Tomei whose character takes Lucious' side in the war for control over the company.

In addition to the first trailer, first official cast photos of season 2 have been revealed. They feature the main cast, including Gabourey Sidibe who is upped to series regular for the second installment. Recently, the show also booked Pitbull as a guest star. He will appear as himself, performing "No Doubt About It" with Jamal.

Meanwhile, series creator Lee Daniels confirmed at the TCA summer press tour on Thursday, August 6 that there would be a spin-off to the hit drama. "There is going to be a spin-off from 'Empire' without question," he said. "I think there's so much ripe story [that] we've talked about it in the [writers] room already. About Cookie's family, what makes them her. Lucious' family, what makes them them. That in itself is fascinating to me."

"Empire" returns Wednesday, September 23 at 9 P.M. on FOX.
