A rep for the veteran comedian and actress confirms she passed away on Thursday, October 9, but the cause of death is still unknown.

AceShowbiz - Jan Hooks, a former cast member on "Saturday Night Live", has passed away. Her representative, Lisa Lieberman, confirms that the actress/comedian died on Thursday morning, October 9 in New York City.

Other details surrounding her death, including the cause of death, have not been revealed yet, but TMZ reports that Hooks, who also appeared on "Designing Women", was battling a "serious illness." She was 57.

Hooks was a repertory player on "SNL" from 1986 to 1991 and continued making cameo appearances until 1994. During her time on the NBC sketch show, she did impressions of people including Sinead O'Connor, Kathie Lee Gifford and Hillary Clinton.

After leaving "SNL" as main cast member in 1991, she joined "Designing Women" to replace Jean Smart. She earned an Emmy nomination for her role as Vicki Dubcek on "3rd Rock from the Sun". Hooks also appeared in 1985's movie "Pee-wee's Big Adventure", 1992's "Batman Returns" and in two episodes of "30 Rock" season 4 in 2010.
