The director who lifted up the 'Fast and Furious' franchise is negotiating to direct the first two episodes of the new season.

AceShowbiz - "Fast and Furious" helmer Justin Lin reportedly is in talks to replace Emmy winner Cary Fukunaga to direct a few episodes in HBO's "True Detective" season 2. The talks are in early stages as details such as budgets and vision still need to be worked out.

According to THR, Lin won't be directing the whole season like Fukunaga did for the first season but is assigned for the first two episodes only. Lin is already attached to direct the new installment in "Bourne" franchise but he would be able to squeeze this TV project in before the film goes into production next year. Filming for the TV series is scheduled to begin in September.

Fukunaga, who won Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series at last month's Primetime Emmys, will not return to direct the second season. He reportedly would step back as a producer and consultant. Following his victory, Fukunaga revealed that being the sole director of a season presented "a lot of difficult challenges" and "an immense amount of work" but "you ensure that your vision, along with the writers' vision, will be continuous."

Meanwhile, there are a lot of speculations on who would replace Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as the lead stars. The latest names thrown into the bucket are Elisabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams. There had been talks that writer and series creator Nic Pizzolatto wanted to present a strong female character in the new season.
