TV Adaptation of Stephen King's 'Under the Dome' Picked Up to Series by CBS
The project was initially developed at Showtime, but has now moved to the Eye which gives it a 13-episode series order.


Stephen King's "Under the Dome" is one step closer to come to the small screen. A TV adaptation based on the bestselling supernatural thriller novel has been given a 13-episode series order by CBS for a summer 2013 premiere.

"This is a great novel coming to the television screen with outstanding auspices and in-season production values to create a summer programming event," says Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment. "We're excited to transport audiences Under the Dome and into the extraordinary world that Stephen King has imagined."

The project was initially developed at Showtime, but the network's president David Nevins thought it wasn't really right for the cable channel and recommended it to Tassler. Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television will produce the show with King, Neal Baer, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Stacey Snider and Brian K. Vaughan as the executive producers.

"Under the Dome" novel was first published in 2009. It follows locals at a Maine vacation spot which becomes trapped under a mysterious invisible force field. A corrupt local politician uses the crisis to seize power, while local people start battling one another.
