"The Voice" has kicked off the Knockout Rounds on Monday, October 29, unveiling half of its Top 20. Adam Levine and Cee-Lo Green were the first two coaches who chopped down their teams from ten to five each in the first part. In a twist, the contestants were not told whom they would face off until there were called on stage.
Adam pitted Joselyn Rivera, whom he stole from Christina Aguilera's team, against Kayla Nevarez. The former chose to sing "Love on Top" and nailed it, while the latter performed a slightly more melodic version of "Shark in the Water". The Maroon 5 frontman decided to keep Joselyn.
Pop-rock singers Joe Kirkland and Bryan Keith faced off each other, with the former delivering his take on Taylor Swift's "Mean". Bryan, meanwhile, picked Bryan Adams' classic "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You". Adam chose to give a go to Bryan because of his ability to connect with the audience.
Still from Team Adam, Amanda Brown fought against Michelle Brooks-Thompson. Amanda showed her spark when performing a rendition of "Paris (Ooh La La)", while Michelle sang "Spotlight" by Jennifer Hudson like a real diva. Adam, however, sent Amanda to the next round.
Later, Loren Allred belted out Amy Winehouse's "You Know I'm No Good" to battle Nicole Nelson who went with "If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys. Saying that she had "the element of surprise," Adam chose to keep wedding singer Loren.
Last from Team Adam, there were Melanie Martinez and Sam James who sang La Roux's "Bulletproof" and Marc Cohn's "Walking in Memphis" respectively. Adam landed his choice on Melanie, sending Sam home.
From Team Cee-Lo, fan-favorite Avery Wilson faced up against Cody Belew. The former picked Chris Brown's "Yeah 3x", while the latter went with "Jolene" by Dolly Parton. Cee-Lo chose to keep Cody, but promised to keep in touch with Avery.
In the next showdown, Mackenzie Bourg delivered a unique version of "Call Me Maybe" to fight against Daniel Rosa who sang "Back to December". Adam preferred Daniel, but Cee-Lo agreed with Xtina and Blake Shelton, keeping Mackenzie on his team.
Next, Cee-Lo pitted two powerhouse singers, Terisa Griffin and Trevin Hunte against each other. Terisa sang Whitney Houston's "Saving All My Love for You", while Trevin delivered a heartfelt rendition of "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)". The Gnarls Barkley singer made the tough choice, sending Terisa home in favor of Trevin.
Mycle Wastman sang "Put Your Records On" in a battle against Nicholas David, who went with "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me". None of them showed something special, but Cee-Lo chose to advance Nicholas anyway.
For the last showdown of the night, Caitlin Michelle and Diego Val sang Lenny Kravitz's "Are You Gonna Go My Way" and Evanescence's "Bring Me Back to Life" respectively. Facing another tough choice, Cee-Lo eventually gave his vote to Diego.
On Tuesday, October 30, Xtina and Blake will have their own turns to eliminate half of their teams' members.
