First Look at Braided Mary J. Blige in 'Rock of Ages'
Movie

The 'Be Without You' crooner braids her hair with beads to portray Justice Charlier in the Adam Shankman-directed movie.

AceShowbiz - How Mary J. Blige will look like in new Adam Shankman-directed movie "Rock of Ages" has been revealed. On Twitter, the director posted a picture of the R&B singer wearing a tube dress and having her blonde hair braided with beads.

In the movie, the "Stronger with Each Tear" singer will play Justice Charlier, the owner of a gentlemen's club. "[I'm] a strip club owner -- but a nice strip club!" so she told ScreenRant when talking about her character and the place where she is working.

The "I Can Do Bad All by Myself" actress then described her character as "the rock." She elaborated her statement, "She's probably the person with the most problems that they never see. She has to keep everybody lifted up. That's the inner work."

"The inner work is that she's been through hell, she can't find a love, so she ended up in a strip club," she went on. "But, she's fun. She's funny. Most funny people have sad, sad stories. So, she's the light and the dark place I believe."

Beside acting, Mary will also lend her vocals to the soundtrack. In fact, that's what drew her to the project. "I love the fact that everyone is singing. It's like, we act-sing, act-sing. So there are songs like 'Any Way You Want It' by Journey that I'm singing and 'Shadows of the Night' by Pat Benatar," she gushed.

Based on a Broadway musical of the same title, "Rock of Ages" will follow a small-town girl (Julianne Hough) who comes to Hollywood for the 1980s music scene just as a legendary Hollywood venue is facing its demise. She falls for a budding musician named Drew (Diego Boneta), but also catches the eye of Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise), an arrogant rocker at the height of his career.

Joining the cast ensemble are Malin Akerman, Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Paul Giamatti, Will Forte and many others. The star-studded drama musical film is slated for June 1, 2012 release in the U.S.
