After performing on "Saturday Night Live" in 1982, Elton John is back on the show on April 2 to serve as a host. Claiming the stint is the safest thing he did in the 1980s to try again, he proclaimed during the opening monologue, "The bitch is back!", before poking fun at his new fatherhood as well as his former drug and alcohol usage.
In a British Royal Family sketch, John was joined by Fred Armisen and Bill Hader as the Queen and Prince Philip to talk about Prince Williams' wedding reception. The musician later posed as Eric Sandrews who, along with Taran Killam's Dale Eberheart, gave critics on films.
John later changed his outfit to a turquoise vest and chaps to portray Bruce, the wild west cowboy with a flamboyant side and spread the news of his alternative lifestyle to the ignorant townspeople. Tom Hanks then introduced musical segments where John played dueling pianos with Leon Russell.
That night, Hanks also took part in some sketches including the one where he portrayed Michael Caine. Will Forte returned as anchor Greg Stink in an ESPN Classic sketch, while Jake Gyllenhaal appeared in Weekend Update to give his new movie "Source Code" an opening-weekend box-office plug.
