Recognizing underground sounds making the most noise on college campuses across America, mtvU Woodie Awards disclosed its nominees. Such rappers as Wiz Khalifa, Kanye West and B.o.B get one nod each, and leading the pack with two is duo The Black Keys.
Khalifa is vying for Woodie of the Year, a title honoring the one making the biggest splash on the college music scene this past year. Through his breakout single "Black & Yellow", he is facing off Black Keys ("Tighten Up"), B.o.B ("Airplanes"), Arcade Fire ("The Suburbs") and LCD Soundsystem ("Drunk Girls").
Kanye, meanwhile, appears among those who "resist classification" to win Left Field Woodie. The outspoken rapper is competing for the prize along with the likes of Die Antwoord, Lil B, Yelawolf and Das Racist.
Black Keys receive their second nod in Best Video Woodie. Their "Tighten Up" clip is battling Vampire Weekend's "Giving Up the Gun", Duck Sauce's "Barbara Streisand", Gorillaz's "Stylo" and Chiddy Bang's "Opposite of Adults".
The other nominees are Mumford & Sons and Sleigh Bells. The former is up for Performing Woodie with The National, Girl Talk, Matt and Kim and Robyn. The latter is nominated for Breaking Woodie with Local Natives, Two Door Cinema Club and Wavves.
"mtvU is like home to me. This nomination is both an honor and a pleasure," B.o.B said of his nomination. In line with his excitement, The Black Keys are also "super stoked that MTV has been so supportive of [their] videos." Mat & Kim chimed in, "We couldn't ask for a better category to be nominated in."
mtvU Woodie Awards will air live from Austin, Texas, during the South by Southwest Music Festival on March 16 at 12 A.M. (ET/PT). Voting opens starting Tuesday, February 1 at Woodies.MTV.com, and runs through March 1. Voting for the Breaking Woodie will continue until the show.
