Gorillaz Stops Recording This Year

Gorillaz is not doing any project this year as confirmed by the creator Damon Albarn. The animated band will lie pretty low this year even after multi platinum "Demon Days" (2005).
The band doesn't exactly come to a halt. They still owe a project to make the score for a movie that is linked to British animator Terry Gilliam. "We're trying to make a film next, starting in September hopefully. It will be a film score. There won't be another pop record," said Albarn on 'behalf' of the band. It has been said that the members will chip in as alternative characters in the movie.

Alternative rock band Angels & Airwaves dominated the 2006 mtvU Woodie Awards, held Wednesday Oct 25th at New York's Roseland Ballroom. The band, formed by former Blink-182 star Tom DeLonge, claimed the event's top prize the Woodie of The Year (Artist of the Year) award.
Also won an honor during the award show, held to honor US college students' favorite emerging artists and music, was Plain White T's who brought home The Breaking Woodie (Best Emerging Artist) award, and Gnarls Barkley who nabbed the Left Field Woodie (Most Original Artist) award.
The Gorillaz Autobiography Slated for A November 2 Release Date

Cartoon band Gorillaz is planning to split later this year. Yet, prior to the break up they will first have their autobiography released.
The book, simply titled "Rise of the Ogre", has been slated for a November 2nd release date. Was written by the band themselves, the set will reveal all the details of the group dynamics besides also featuring over 300 color illustrated pages.
Prince to be Honored Webby's Lifetime Achievement Award

It was announced Wednesday May 31st, 2006 by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences that Prince will receive a Special Achievement honor at the 10th Annual Webby Awards for his efforts to make use the Internet to distribute music and connect with fans.
"Besides being a musical genius, Prince is a visionary who recognized early on that the web would completely change how we experience music," Webby Awards founder Tiffany Shlain said in a statement. "For more than a decade, he has tapped the power of the Web to forge a deeper connection with his fans and push the boundaries of technology and art."
The 51st Ivor Novello Music Awards Winners
May 27, 2006 01:05:20Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall hit hard this time as she nabbed the prize for Best Song on Thursday May 25th, 2006 at the 51st Ivor Novello Awards for her 2005 hit "Suddenly I See." Meanwhile, fellow musician James Blunt won big with two awards all at once, namely The Most Performed Song and International Hit of the Year for his "You're Beautiful".
As for Best Album category, the award went to "Employment" from Kaiser Chiefs. In addition to those winners, there were also Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett of cartoon band Gorillaz who both were named Songwriters of the Year. Gorillaz to Collaborate With Renowned German Opera

Their recent concert stint at Harlem's Apollo Theater drew negative reviews, but that doesn't mean they can't do better. Approvingly, the animated band Gorillaz is planning to collaborate with the renowned German opera company Staatsoper on a production featuring the original music of the band.
In the accompanying feature, Gorillaz leader Damon Albarn reportedly also will write the music for "Monkey Journey To The West." Based on a book by 16th century Chinese author Wu Cheng'en, the production will depict the metamorphosis of a monkey into a human. Staatsoper musical director, Daniel Barenboim, revealed further that "Monkey Journey To The West" is aimed for younger audience and will premiere in Berlin on July 31 next year.

The U.K. albums chart sees a newcomer on its list which at the same time becoming the chart topper as well. It's Corinne Bailey Rae. The English singer/songwriter comes in the U.K. albums chart at No. 1 with her self-titled debut set, pushing aside last week's champion Jack Johnson's "In Between Dreams" to No. 2.
Seat at No. 3 to No. 5 on the chart in succession are Arctic Monkeys' "Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm", KT Tunstall's "Eye To The Telescope", and Kaiser Chiefs' "Employment", each of which falls one place from last week position. Meanwhile, at No. 6 is Neil Diamond's "12 Songs", one place ahead of Gorillaz' "Demon Days" at No. 7, both of which also slips one place from last week position.
Madonna and Gorillaz Team Up to Open Grammys

Gorillaz Goes Virtually on Tour

For the sake of the tour, Gorillaz will drop into 12 different destinations by way of http://www.habbohotel.com, an online virtual community for teens. There, the band members, their cartoon alter egos to be exactly, will interact with fans, who will themselves be represented by avatars.

Bringing the idea into life, Albarn claims it will be turned into the concept for the new Gorillaz album, "Demon Days."
