The new addition to the Gorillaz crew is revealed to be a creature with water element, which wears so-called rain boots and has a fishbowl head.
Despite rumor that they won't return after a planned hiatus, Gorillaz added a new member and introduced it to their fans on Tuesday, January 11. Called The Evangelist, the new animated character has humanoid figure with clawed hands, octopuses attached on both arms and fishbowl full of tentacles as the head.
The nightmarish creature is drawn by one of the band's masterminds Jamie Hewlett, based on a design submitted by a fan who entered their online competition under the name Jirouta. The sketch was chosen among over 5,000 submissions and after five rounds of public voting.
When opening the contest, Jamie and Damon Albarn provided only a vague description of the new character. "The Evangelist is the opposite of 'The Boogieman'; the light to his awful shade," they described. "The Evangelist is a similar entity, but the flip-side of 'The Boogieman.' He/she may even be revealed as 'The Boogieman's' avenger."
"Many rumors fly around of his/her description. Some say that he/she is dressed head to toe in white rhinestoned-leather. Some say he/she rides a glowing white Unicorn. Some say the Unicorn likes other Unicorns....One report has stated that the Evangelist looks like a knackered cowboy on a drunken horse."
