Writer/director M. Night Shyamalan has reportedly found his cast ensemble for "The Last Airbender". In a casting report, Entertainment Weekly claimed that Jesse McCartney and Jackson Rathbone's names have popped out in the cast ensemble list for the live-action adaptation of animation series "Avatar: The Last Airbender".
While McCartney, the "Leavin'" singer who voiced JoJo in "Horton Hears a Who!", has been said to still be in negotiation for the role of Zuko, the Fire Nation's evil prince, Rathbone, who recently appeared as Jasper Hale in "Twilight", is lined-up to be Aang's pal named Sokka. Joining them are Noah Ringer who may take the main character, Aang, and Nicola Peltz who will star as Sokka's sister, Katara.
To be differentiated from James Cameron's "Avatar", "The Last Airbender" has dropped "Avatar" from its title. It tells the story of the successor to a long line of Avatars who must put aside his irresponsible ways and stop the Fire Nation from enslaving the Water, Earth and Air nations. The Paramount Pictures film eyes to hit U.S. theaters on July 2, 2010.

Okay ppl, seriously, u should all be aware that this movie will be screwed up. Whether the cast is all Asian, white, black, blue, green, or mixed. What cartoon turned movie can u name that turned out well with ppl cast correctly? Thats my point, none. So, as always we all need to just separate ourselves from the amazingness of the real avatar and pretend this movie is in its on realm.

ok you guys really need to stop freaking out about Jesse McCartney playing Zuko. You never know he might be able to pull off the bad boy image zuko has. Jesse's acting skill are pretty good he can pull it off!! as for jackson playing sokka i think he would be perfect. he can tottaly pull off the non bending worrior sokka is in the series. one last thing who is this Noah Ringer?? i have never heard of her. if shes going to play Aang we are going to need some background info!!!

I would like to see this. This is going to burn horrible. An animation should stay an animation, unless they can come up with a good way to bring it to real life. As this is an asian show, but do you see any asians. Look at transformers that pretty good, but this is going to fail like a fat guy trying to get Britney Spears. PHAIL!!!!!!!!!!!

Uhmm...here's the thing...NO...I'm NOT trying to be racist. I love Jackson Rathbone to death b/c he's just one of the most amazing actors ever (even if I've only seen him in one movie in which he had about...err...one line perhaps??). I have no comment for Mr. McCartney. HOWEVER...Avatar IS...well...ASIANESQUE...with people who are....Asian? Maybe? I dunno. I just feel like it will kind of take away from the whole feel of the series....I wasn't too hot on the whole live action plot in the first place anyways. I don't feel like they're going to have a big enough budget to make the movie what it should be. I'm worried about the cheap effects and bad translation from tv-screen to theater-screen. I really hope this movie proves me wrong...even without Asian actors. Unfortunately, there aren't any young/talented/well-known Asian actors to fill the roles anyways...and this movie kinda needs some kids who are at least RELATIVELY known. oi.

okay, people need to stop dissing Jackson Rathbone. Maybe the movie'll be good, maybe it wont. I have been iffy about the whole idea of Avatar being more than a cartoon from the start, so it's nice to have something to look forward to. As for Jessie McCartney... I just hope that he looks good with black hair and can have a MAJOR attitude. But Jackson is a good actor and I loved Twilight, he makes a good Jasper. And as for the whole Asian thing, it doesn't matter what a person's race is, as long as they portray the character like they are portrayed in the original series then the movie will turn out very good, everyone has different opinions of what a character should look and act lik, and this is the vision that M.NS. had so we just need to deal with it. PS: Jackson, my best friend is Team Jasper, lol.

i can totally see jackson rathbone as sokka, but i have serious issues with JESSE MCCARTNEY of ALL people to play Zuko. Mostly, I agree with the general consensus of comments here-let's please not whitewash everything, Hollywood! I'm excited for this movie (i love avatar!), but definately nervous.

if zuko is played by a caucasian then iroh will have to be played by a caucasian, which makes absolutely no sense. iroh cannot be a caucasian. as for katara and sokka, i really don't mind them being caucasian as long as the majority of the water tribe is inuit-esque. in other words, not every in the water tribe needs to be inuit. a couple, like katara and sokka, can be caucasian. same with aang and the air nomads. i don't mind if aang is caucasian as long as the majority of the air nomads are asian. and obviously the most diversity can be found in earth kingdom. but toph is going to have to be asian. after all, her last name is Bei Fong. but again, zuko needs to be asian. and the majority of the fire nation should be asian. but jason isaacs, the voice actor for zhao, should play zhao in the live action movie. i think he would be good for the part.

None of the characters in the animated show were caucasian. Air Nomads were Tibetan. Fire Nation were Japanese. Earth Kindom were Chineese. Water Tribe were Inuit. And once again Hollywood decides to make all the main characters caucasian. I'm just suprised that M. Night Shyamalan would sell out like that.
