George Michael has been axed from next year's Brit Awards, as reported by Mirror. "George was frontrunner to get the lifetime achievement award. But Brits bosses felt it would be better not to be associated with him for the time being since the Brits is a shop window for our music," a source from the music industry says.

In a further statement, the source explains that the two-time Grammy Awards winning musician was scrapped as the candidate of "Outstanding Contribution to Music" category after he had been arrested in Hampstead Heath area of north London with crack cocaine in September. Bosses from the prestigious event are said to be searching for another candidate to be honored.

Previously, the 45-year-old singer revealed his regret referring to the scandal. "I want to apologize to my fans for screwing up again and to promise them I'll sort myself out. And to say sorry to everybody else, just for boring them," he stated. However, Michael's camp as well as spokesperson from the awards haven't given any statement yet concerning his rumored dropping.

A classic case of double standards---just look at the history of past recipients. This is a crock of cr*p because it has to do with George Michael. I agree with the last poster. Move to America George...you gave us one hell of a ride this summer and we appreciate it with all of our hearts. Your reviews and the renewed respect for you in appreciation of your God given talents will be remembered always! I do, however, feel for the British fans of Georges' however, the general public and the tabloid's consistent ridicule is enough to send anyone running.

I cant believe that people have such short memories!!! George Michael has just been on tour for 2 years!! i was lucky to see him 3 times in England and i cant think of an entertainer who deserves this award more, for goodness sake leave this guy alone, we dont know what goes on in peoples lives nor do we want to know, this is about MUSIC not his personal life, surely if these rumors of him being dropped are true we should be asking why others are allowed to appear in previous years obviously doped up to the eyeballs!!You are a master of your art George, we your fans hold you as the best of the BRITS, forever.

All the tabloids couldn't wait to nail him to a cross as soon as he was done lining Britian's pockets from is much successful tour. How many shows did he play in England alone? How long has he career been going on in England? He is treated like Sh*t there ~ and now this. Time to flip them all the bird, George...Tell them to kiss your hairy Greek *** and get the h*ll out of Britian. You don't deserve this extremely talented man.

George IS the frontrunner to get The Lifetime Achievment Award. Name me one other artist that even comes close. This award is given for his Musical Contribution...not for his personal life. I would love to dig through the closets of everyone of the "bosses" for the Brits...I think it would prove so interesting that "whats good for the goose is good for the gander"...the Brits would have nothing but an empty building. Nothing but hypocrisy from a bunch of fools!

I "CAN'T" believe that this man is not getting that award cause, he got in trouble for drugs are the brits "Serious" I agree with the rest of the group here whatever goes on with George Micheal life let him deal with it,but we are talking about music not his personal life(he is not getting award for that) please...I have been a fan of George Michael forever and my sisters and I had the pleasure of seeing him again in Seattle,Wa and it was fantastic,so George keep your head up and handle your business your fans still love you and we wish you well in America. Sorry, I had to do another one cause, I didn't proofread the first one.

You have got to be kidding me! Is this a joke? The Brits would become the hit makers of hypocrites if this proves to not be a rumor. George Michael deserves this award - period. My voice and others will be heard loud and clear, If George does not receive this award!

I happen to be from the States; however, the news of this "rumour" of George being dropped from the Brits due to a "situation" regarding his PERSONAL life...not his MUSICAL CAREER is just appauling. First of all, George was not charged and the case was closed...what he needs to do to recify his private life is just that...private. The Brit Award for "Outstanding Contribution to Music" is given to an artist that has done just that ~ George Michael, deserves that award. Twenty-seven years of giving us incredible music and just finishing a two year sold out arena and stadium tour around the world; classifies him as the only artist at this time deserving of this award. I am so surprised that the "bosses" would actually toy with the fact of dropping Mr. Michael; considering past recipients of various Brit awards were fueled by drugs and other scandals. If this proves to be true, George Michael fans throughout the U.K. and the world should work to ban the Brits in '09 .

*lol* They are searching for another candidate? What will they say "Please Please accept this award because George Michael, our first choice took a Happy Pill last September? Please don't wear anything with pockets until the event!" How embarrassing for the person who accepts it.
