Pope Francis Beats Miley Cyrus to Be TIME's Person of the Year

Pope Francis has been named TIME magazine's Person of the Year on Wednesday, December 11, meaning Miley Cyrus failed to take the coveted title. The Catholic church leader has been selected by editors of the magazine with consideration of a poll from its readers.

It was reported a while ago that Cyrus was leading the readers poll with 28 percent of the votes. She even scored a position on the Top 10 list which was revealed by the magazine's managing editor Nancy Gibbs on Monday. The only entertainer on the list, the 21-year-old singer thrived this year for her "Wrecking Ball" video which became a cultural phenomenon.

Lorde Under Racial Attack for 'Ugly' Boyfriend

"Royals" crooner Lorde fell victim to racial abuse online after photos of her and her Asian boyfriend James Lowe surfaced. The abuse has been reported as a revenge from One Direction and Justin Bieber's fans who got angry after Lorde allegedly called them "ugly" and "overrated".

Although there is no record of Lorde dissing the British boy band and Bieber, she was the subject of hatred on Twitter. "What the f**k is lorde and that chinese sort of ostrich boyfriend anyway," wrote @whosxays. Some of the Twitter users called Lowe "PSY gone wrong" and "captain of chess club". @xxamandaax posted a picture of Lorde and Lowe on the beach with the caption, "I hope this frightening image of lorde and her boyfriend helps you get through today."

Angelina Jolie's Plane Grounded by FAA for Not Having License

Angelina Jolie has reportedly been banned from flying her private plane after failing to renew its registration in time. The certificate to the 38-year-old movie star's red-and-white Cirrus SR-22 has expired on June 30.

According to NY Times' Page Six, FAA documents noted that a renewal application was sent to the agency but it arrived too late. FAA sent a letter to Jolie's Chivan Productions at the beginning of September that they could not process the renewal because application did not arrive in time.

Ylvis' "The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)" has helped the Norwegian duo gain international fame. Thus, it's not exaggerating that YouTube dubs it the Top Trending Video of 2013. The funny clip, which has been viewed more than 270 million times since it's released on September 3, places first on the list which also includes Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" at No. 4.

In the Top Trending Music Videos, meanwhile, last year's viral hit PSY rules with his music video for "Gentleman". Cyrus claims two spots, the runner-up and the third places, with "Wrecking Ball" and "We Can't Stop" videos respectively.

Justin Bieber Visits Typhoon Haiyan Victims

Despite his headline-making antics, Justin Bieber is committed to help others who are in need. The "Beauty and a Beat" singer arrived in the Philippines on Tuesday, December 10 from Australia. He visited victims of typhoon Haiyan in Tacloban and distributed shirts, toys and basketballs to children as well as performed for them.

"He played a very beautiful set," Kate Donovan, a spokeswoman for UNICEF, told the Associated Press. "He played a series of Christmas songs and some of his hits as well, including 'Baby'."

Barron Hilton Reportedly Didn't Get Back to Police Because of 'Incriminating Photos'

Barron Hilton, whose face was injured in a feud which was linked to Lindsay Lohan in Miami last week, reportedly stopped cooperating with the police because he was threatened. According to Radar Online, Paris Hilton's younger brother was warned with the release of some "incriminating photos" showing him in the hours before the feud.

"Barron has decided that he is no longer going to cooperate with investigators because he has been made aware that there incriminating photos, that if released, could tell a very different side of what took place at the home," a source told the site.

In the "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" sequel, a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. Jazz Guitarist Jim Hall Dies at 83

Music world has lost one of its greatest talents. Jazz guitarist Jim Hall died in his sleep on Tuesday, December 10, his wife Jane Hall told the Associated Press. The musician suffered from a brief illness prior to his passing at his Greenwich Village apartment in Manhattan.

"Jim was an essentially beautiful human being. I don't know anybody who didn't love him, including myself. He was the consummate musician and it was a privilege to work with him," saxophonist Sonny Rollins said in an email. His widow additionally said that her husband would be "truly beloved by everybody who ever met him."

Paul Walker's Funeral Reportedly to Be Held This Weekend

Family and close friends are going to hold Paul Walker's funeral this weekend, E! News reports. "All of the funeral details are still being worked out," a source said. On Tuesday, December 10, the Los Angeles County coroner's office released the actor's body to his family. Assistant chief of coroner's investigations Ed Winter told Los Angeles Times that the body was turned over to Forest Lawn Mortuaries where many stars were buried.

A separate report from TMZ suggests that the "Fast and Furious" actor's funeral will be small and private. Sources told the site that the funeral would be by invitation only and the crew of the car-racing movie franchise would be invited. The sources additionally said that the family would hold larger memorial sometime following the funeral, but it would also be for invited people only.

'World War Z' Sequel Gets Juan Antonio Bayona as Director

A new director has officially been tapped for the upcoming "World War Z" sequel. Juan Antonio Bayona ("The Orphanage", "The Impossible") is confirmed to take over the helming duty from Marc Forster who directed the first film.

Released this summer, "World War Z" is based on Max Brooks' novel of the same title. Despite the script issues during the filming that led to rewrites and reshoots of at least three pivotal scenes, the apocalyptic movie gained over $540 million worldwide.

Newly Found Johnny Cash Album to Be Released in Spring 2014

Never-before-heard music from Johnny Cash will be released posthumously. The late singer's estate has announced that a newly-found album by Cash, "Out Among the Stars", is set to hit the shelves on March 25, 2014, more than ten years after his death.

The country icon recorded the long-lost album in the early 1980s with Billy Sherrill but it was never released by Columbia Records. The album then disappeared when the company dropped Cash in 1986. It wasn't until last year that Cash's son, John Carter Cash, and archivists at Legacy Recordings found the tapes among other recordings and souvenirs kept by Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash.

Demi Lovato Says She 'Couldn't Go an Hour Without Cocaine'

Demi Lovato said last month that her past struggle with addiction would shock fans and now the singer shared the extent of the issue in an interview with Access Hollywood. Speaking from the set of "The X Factor (US)" on Monday, December 9, Demi said, "I'm very, very good at manipulating people and that was something that I did in my disease, I would manipulate everyone around me. There were times I would just continue to lie, so that everything looked OK on the outside."

"Something I've never talked about before, but with my drug use I could hide it to where I would sneak drugs. I couldn't go without 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine and I would bring it on airplanes," she continued. "I would smuggle it basically and just wait until everyone in first class would go to sleep and I would do it right there. I'd sneak to the bathroom and I'd do it. That's how difficult it got and that was even with somebody [with me], I had a sober companion, somebody who was watching me 24/7 and living with me [and] I was able to hide it from them as well."

NBC goes horror with its newly-greenlit project. The network has given a go to "Rosemary's Baby" miniseries, which is adapted from the 1967 best-selling suspense novel by Ira Levin. The book was previously turned into a feature film directed by Roman Polanski and starring Mia Farrow in 1968.

"Ira Levin's mesmerizing book was a groundbreaking reflection on how effective and influential a psychological thriller could be," says Quinn Taylor, NBC's EVP, Movies, Miniseries and International Co-Productions.

The first official teaser trailer for "Godzilla" has been unearthed. It opens with David Strathairn giving a speech to a group of military members before they are dispatched in a desperate operation to stop the monstrous creature from destroying the city any further.

Kate Winslet Gave Birth to Ned Rocknroll's Baby

Kate Winslet is proud mother of a new baby boy. The "Titanic" star gave birth to her third child on Saturday, December 7 at an NHS hospital in Sussex County, U.K. The baby weighed 9 lb. A representative of Winslet told People, "Mother and baby are doing great." The rep added to Mail Online that the actress and her husband Ned Rocknroll are "thrilled to bits".

This is Winslet's first child with Rocknroll. She is already a mother to 13-year-old Mia and 10-year-old Joe from previous relationships. She had expressed a desire to expand her family in 2006, telling InStyle, "I'm hoping to have more kids. I don't know whether one or two. Oh, God, I would love to have more."
