Peter Jackson Confirms That 'The Hobbit' Will Be a Trilogy

Like "Lord of the Rings" series, "The Hobbit" will be a trilogy. Director Peter Jackson confirmed on Monday, July 30 that an extra film will close the Middle Earth saga which is kicked off with "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" and followed up with "The Hobbit: There and Back Again".

"Upon recently viewing a cut of the first film, and a chunk of the second, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and I were very pleased with the way the story was coming together," Jackson said in a statement. "We recognized that the richness of the story of 'The Hobbit', as well as some of the related material in the appendices of 'The Lord of the Rings', gave rise to a simple question: do we tell more of the tale? And the answer from our perspective as filmmakers and fans was an unreserved 'yes'."

The former daytime talk-show host has her hair arranged in a beehive while wearing a patterned shirt paired with cropped trousers and low heels. She completed her look by doning a gold chain around her neck.

Also spotted on set were Lenny Kravitz and Cuba Gooding Jr.. The former was wearing a beige sweater teamed with a pair of khaki trousers as he walked around the set, while the later was all smiles when pictured on the set wearing gray trousers and a white shirt.

CBS in Early Conversations About 'How I Met Your Mother' Season 9

CBS is working on extending "How I Met Your Mother" run beyond its upcoming season 8. President of CBS Entertainment Nina Tassler has stated that the network wants a ninth season of the sitcom and has begun negotiations on it.

"They had an incredible year last year and we have a great relationship with Craig [Thomas] and Carter [Bays]. They have a strategic wrap-up to the show. They know we want the show to come back next year," she said. "We're not there yet in terms of [renewing HIMYM]. We're having conversations right now about extending it. We're in early conversations and we're pretty optimistic."

'The Shining' Prequel Possibly In the Works

Warner Bros. is said to be considering a prequel to the horror movie classic, "The Shining". The studio is "quietly exploring the possibility of a prequel," says a report from the L.A. Times.

It is said that the prequel will show what happened before the Torrances' family vacation to the Overlook. A WB spokeswoman says that if there is a "Shining" prequel in the works, it is "in a very early stage and not even formally in development."

'Dark Knight Rises' Shooting Gunman to Be Charged on Monday

James Holmes, the man who killed 12 moviegoers and injured 58 others during the midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises", is expected to be formally charged on Monday, July 30. According to court documents, he is staring down 12 counts of first-degree murder charges stemming from the theater massacre.

24-year-old Holmes appeared in court with reddish-orange dyed hair for the first time three days after the Friday, July 20 mass shooting. The former medical student of University of Colorado gave blank stare and stayed silent throughout the proceedings. He was represented by a public defender and entered no plea for his case.

'Anger Management' Will Up Martin Sheen to Series Regular as Show Nears Renewal

Charlie Sheen is likely to stay for a long time on FX. John Landgraf, the president and general manager for the cable channel, said that the 46-year-old actor's "Anger Management" has so far given indication that it would reach the undisclosed ratings threshold required to pick up the show for 90 more episodes.

"The series up until now has given us every indication [that it will return]," Landgraf told reporters at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour in Beverly Hills on Saturday, July 28. He, however, stressed that they wouldn't renew the show until it ended its 10-episode run, stating, "We won't make a decision on the 90 episodes until all 10 have aired."

More tidbits from "The Wolverine" have been shared as a new set photo surfaces online. The image obtained by Comic Book Movie is believed to show a model of a Japanese prisoner of war camp during World War II, which will be featured [SPOILER ALERT!] in the opening scene that is reportedly going to include an atomic bomb explosion.

The image of the prisoner of war (POW) camp, which might be shown in a flashback in the movie, hints that the upcoming film will feature mutant villain Lt. Ethan Warren in addition to Silver Samurai. In Brian K Vaughan's limited series "Wolverine: Logan", Warren and Logan are held as POW in Japan during WW II, but manage to escape together.

NBC's coverage for the first night of Olympic Competition has set a new record, so the network claims. The Saturday, July 28 broadcast, which saw Ryan Lochte defeating Michael Phelps in a swimming showdown, pulled in an average of 28.7 million viewers to make it the most-watched summer Olympics opening night.

The number tops the first night of the 2008 Beijing Olympics (24.0 million), and the 2004 Athens Olympics (19.8 million). Additionally, it is almost two millions more than the audience of the first competition night during the 1996 Atlanta Games (26.3 million), which previously held the record.

"The Dark Knight Rises" is still unshaken on the top of North American box office. The third Batman film from Christopher Nolan adds $62.1 million on its second weekend to secure the champion title, though it suffers a big drop of 60% compared to its opening weekend's gross.

After its ten-day run, the superhero action film has collected a total of $289.1 million domestically. The number is slightly below its predecessor "The Dark Knight", which had earned $313.8 million at the same point in its run. Overseas, the Christian Bale-starring movie has grossed $248.2 million, making its total worldwide haul to $537.3 million.

A new claim about Kristen Stewart and director Rupert Sanders' affair said that the "momentary indiscretion" that Stewart mentioned in her public apology was actually more than half a year long. Sanders' brother-in-law, Leopold Ross, revealed it all.
