Movie Story
Set against the action-packed world of Mixed Martial Arts, NEVER BACK DOWN is the story of Jake Tyler, a tough kid who leads with his fists, and, often, with his heart. Jake Tyler, played by Sean Faris, is the new kid in town with a troubled past. He has recently moved to Orlando, Florida with his family who has relocated to support his younger brother's shot at a professional tennis career. Jake was a star athlete on the football team at home, but in this new city he is an outsider with a reputation for being a quick tempered brawler.
Making an attempt to fit in, at the invitation of a flirtatious classmate, Baja (Amber Heard), Jake goes to a party where he is unwittingly pulled into a fight with a bully named Ryan McDonald (Cam Gigandet). While he is defeated and humiliated in the fight, a classmate introduces himself to Jake and tells him about the sport known as Mixed Marshall Arts (MMA). He sees a star in Jake and asks that he meet with his mentor, Jean Roqua, played by Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond, In America).
It is immediately apparent to Jake that MMA is not street fighting, but rather an art form he wants to master. Roqua will take Jake under his wing, but it is up to Jake to find the patience, discipline, willingness and reason within him to succeed. For Jake, there is much more at stake than mere victory. His decision will not just settle a score; it will define who he is.

I thought the movie was absolutely AMAZING. The soundtrack is even really good! I would reccomend this movie to anybody.
posted by tara. on Mar 16, 2008OMG I so loved that movie im going to see it again like in a lil bit. But Who Ever says that the movie is bad or it sux that are wrong. That movie was the best movie I have seen in a while. And both the guys Sean Faris and Cam Gigandet were very good actors in that movie. And they Both have totally rockin bodys lol. They did really good in that movie because of all of the training that was put into the fights and the bet down. So for anyone who thinks this movie sux then they are dumb asses.
posted by hannah2012 on Mar 19, 2008those of you saying the movie had no point didn't obviously get into the movie because everyone always has that one thing they'll fight for rether it's family or friends ect. and it was saying fight so you dont have to fight no more.. maybe you should watch it again and see past the punches and feel for the charecter the movie is great the only movie i payed to go twice to in a theater

I loved the movie... But it was terrible as far as cinema goes. Basically, nothing but pure, unadulterated, mindless entertainment. Great fight scenes, great movie for people who are looking for an introduction to the MMA world... Alot of beginner stuff like saying the names of the moves. Like i said, i've seen it three times because its freakishly fun to watch, but a terrible movie as far as movies go... Not great acting either, sept by "Max" and Djimon Honsou.

When they fight and they are both sweaty their chest looks really hot! I mean how could you not love this movie! i'm gonna get it the second it comes out! I'm in love w/this movie! I would so make out w/both Sean and Cam; two totally gorgeous guys who know how to treat a girl in the real life! I know I can date them to because I have a contract with Dulstar and ABC Family so my work here is done!

posted by Granty on Jun 15, 2008I was really :( that, To Be Loved wasn't in the actual movie. I thought it MADE the trailer, and It gets me so pumped up and I start training for hours with that on repeat. But yeah, was disappointed it was not in the movie, awesome movie as well.

i like this movie and all but the acting was horrible. Like the scene where jake was with baja in his room wrestling, idk why i just thot that the acting sucked. And if you look at the storyline it was stupid. Max was good and so was the trainer guy... forget his name... random but and idk why but i think Max could be a great Joker if Batman ever did anothr movie with the Joker. He has a crazy side and he can be funny and he is a pretty good actor. I know that was random but i think that could happen hahah
