Movie Story
Set in Roman Egypt in the fourth century A.D. Weisz plays astrologer-philosopher Hypatia of Alexandria, who fights to save the collected wisdom of the ancient world. Her slave Davus (Minghella) is torn between his love for his mistress and the possibility of gaining his freedom by joining the rising tide of Christianity.

posted by agora on Feb 27, 2009It looks WONDERFUL! Mateo Gil and Alejandro Amenabar have done their homework. As a student of late antiquity I recognize the places they've created: the Caesarium, the Serapeum, the Sun Gate — they're all there, beautifully realized — along with the characters from Hypatia's story. I can't wait to see this.
