Garbage's frontwoman Shirley Manson has fired back at ageist critics after the band members were described as 'unrecognizable' in a new promotional photo.

AceShowbiz - Shirley Manson, the 58-year-old frontwoman of iconic rock band Garbage, recently took to Instagram to respond to a Daily Mail article that commented on the band's appearance in a promotional shot for their newest single, "There's No Future in Optimism."

The article, accompanied by a black-and-white photo of the group, suggested that the band members look "unrecognizable."

Manson's spirited reply questioned the article's intent. "Well well well… What is THIS supposed to mean?!?" she wrote.

She emphasized that her male bandmates "look almost exactly the same as they have always done for thirty years," suggesting that the critique was specifically targeted at her.

"Look – I'm nearly sixty years old. Of course I'm not going to look anything like my late twenties self?!? Quite honestly I think it would be a bit creepy if I did but hey that's just me," she added.

In her post, Manson accused the article's language of being weaponized to undermine her. "Either way - this kind of language is weaponized to put a woman like me in my place."

Despite the disparaging remarks, she declared her resolve to accept aging gracefully. "I shall continue to age as I am. I will continue to wrinkle and flub - lose an inch of my height here and gain a new inch or two there - but I will still look cute in my pyjamas with bed head and no make up on and I will always - and forever - rock HARDER than most," she stated.

Manson's Instagram post garnered widespread support from fans and fellow celebrities. Christina Hendricks called Manson "a goddess," while Merrin Dungey agreed, stating she looked "HOTTER THAN EVER." Spanish singer Vega reinforced this sentiment, saying, "You are beautiful, the quintessential lady of rock, regardless of the passing of the years."

Paloma Faith wrote, "I think you look fit." Skylar Grey penned, "lol wtf I love this picture you look amazing and beautiful as always and f**k @dailymail for this headline but also who cares bc the controversy of it is only going to help promote your single."

Formed in 1993 in Madison, Wisconsin, Garbage now consists of Manson, guitarists Duke Erikson and Steve Marker, and drummer Butch Vig. Their eighth studio album, "Let All That We Imagine Be the Light," is set for release on May 30. The band will embark on the Happy Endings tour from September to November, bringing their enduring rock legacy to a fresh audience.

Last year, Manson was grateful for being able to make music at 50s, labeling herself "a lifer" with her three male bandmates. "I feel like there's something really magical about working with other people in an invested environment," she shared, highlighting the rarity of a band sticking together for so long.
