AceShowbiz - Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco are turning their love story into a melodic narrative with their upcoming album, "I Said I Love You First", set for release on March 21. The duo recently unveiled their latest single from the project, "Sunset Blvd," a track inspired by the Los Angeles street where they shared their first date.
This ambient pop number arrives alongside a visually captivating music video directed by longtime Gomez collaborator Petra Collins, showcasing a sultry and nostalgic aesthetic.
As she writhes on a bed, she croons, "Women of few words/ But for you I keep my mouth wide open/ Praying and hoping/ That ya quench my thirst/ Not just dip your toes in/ I want that/ Big, big, hard heart."
Gomez expressed her emotional connection to the song on Instagram, noting, "Sunset Blvd will always be a special place to us." The release of this single marks the third glimpse into Gomez and Blanco's forthcoming collaborative LP.
The couple, who confirmed their relationship in December 2023 and got engaged about a year later, first teased the album with "Scared of Loving You," co-written and produced by Billie Eilish's brother Finneas.
They later released "Call Me When You Break Up," which features Gracie Abrams. The album is a celebration of their relationship, chronicling the entirety of their love story, from before they met to their plans for the future.
Gomez discussed the collaboration in an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, expressing how working with Blanco felt natural and deeply connected. "It just felt like it was a little taste of what we are and how we made this together, and how much we loved it and how much we love each other. And it just felt like it was meant to be," she shared.
Blanco echoed her sentiments, revealing how Gomez's journey and resilience have deeply inspired him. "She's had such a journey in life, both personally, medically, so many other things. She makes you just believe it," Blanco said, emphasizing the profound bond they share.
The creation of "Sunset Blvd" took Gomez and Blanco back to their roots, as they recently documented on Instagram. The couple returned to Jitlada Restaurant on Sunset Boulevard, where they had their first date, and recreated the meal they first shared - fried shrimp with curry - alongside the restaurant's owner, Sarin "Jazz" Sing.
For Gomez, "I Said I Love You First" is her first album since 2020's "Rare", a significant release especially after she suggested to fans that she might focus more on acting in the future.
Blanco, on the other hand, builds on the legacy of "Friends Keep Secrets" with this new collaborative effort. The album promises to be an intimate and heartfelt offering, providing listeners a soundtrack to the couple's love journey.
Listen to "Sunset Blvd" and witness how Gomez and Blanco's musical synergy brings out the essence of their relationship, blending past memories and future aspirations into one harmonious record.
