Born Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr., Irv Gotti rose to prominence in the late 1990s as a record executive and producer. Working at Def Jam, he helped bring stars like Jay-Z, DMX, and Ja Rule to the label. Gotti's signature production style, which blended hip-hop beats with melodic hooks, played a pivotal role in the creation of several chart-topping hits.
In 1998, Gotti co-founded Murder Inc. Records with his brother Chris. The label quickly became a dominant force in the music industry, releasing some of the biggest albums of the era.
Murder Inc. artists like Ja Rule, Ashanti, and Fat Joe racked up numerous chart-toppers, including "I'm Real," "Always on Time," and "What's Luv?" Gotti's work earned him a Grammy Award in 2003 for co-producing Ashanti's eponymous album.
