Alec Baldwin is fighting back in court, claiming that New Mexico prosecutors acted out of malice and violated his civil rights in the controversy surrounding the 'Rust' tragedy.

AceShowbiz - Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin has initiated a lawsuit against the New Mexico prosecutors who charged him with involuntary manslaughter following the tragic shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in 2021 on the set of the Western film "Rust."

The lawsuit targets Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, special prosecutor Kari Morrissey, and the investigators involved in the case, alleging malicious prosecution, defamation, and civil rights violations.

Baldwin's attorneys have claimed that the prosecutors were driven by ulterior motives, stating that they "sought at every turn to scapegoat Baldwin for the acts and omissions of others, regardless of the evidence or the law."

Allegations have been made that prosecutors purposely concealed crucial evidence that could absolve Baldwin from blame, including a cache of bullets that, according to Baldwin's defense team, could have provided clarity on how live rounds ended up on set.

A New Mexico judge had already dismissed the involuntary manslaughter charge against Baldwin on grounds that the police and prosecution had suppressed key evidence, notably the aforementioned ammunition.

Despite this dismissal, Baldwin has pursued civil action to ensure the accountability of those he believes have wronged him. "Criminal prosecutions are supposed to be about the search for truth and justice, not to pursue personal or political gain or harass the innocent," emphasized Baldwin's legal representatives, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro.

Baldwin's lawsuit, which came shortly after Morrissey retracted an appeal against the court's decision to dismiss the manslaughter charge, casts a critical light on the actions of the prosecution. Morrisey and Carmack-Altwies have yet to provide comprehensive responses to the allegations but have expressed their readiness to confront these claims in court, with Morrissey stating, "We look forward to our day in court."

The tragic incident on the Santa Fe set has left a lasting impact on the film industry, emphasizing the significant responsibility borne by all involved in film productions. As the legal battles ensue, the conversation around the incident continues to highlight the importance of justice and integrity in the legal process.
