AceShowbiz - Demi Lovato has subtly reacted to Selena Gomez's engagement to Benny Blanco. Years after her candid confession that she and her fellow Disney Channel star are no longer friends, the "Camp Rock" actress has shown her support for her former BFF in the wake of the happy news.
The "Heart Attack" singer is apparently still keeping up with the "Only Murders in the Building" actress although they're not following each other on social media. After learning of Selena's engagement, Demi showed her support by liking the "We Don't Talk Anymore" songstress' post.
Demi talked about her strained friendship with Selena in 2020. "When you grow up with somebody, you're always going to have love for them. But I'm not friends with her, so it felt…," she told Harper'z Bazaar in an interview. "I will always have love for her, and I wish everybody nothing but the best."
Despite that, a source assured that there's no beef between the former friends. According to Us Weekly, "Demi has no beef with Selena and there is no animosity between them." Apparently, they're simply "not friends at this point." A source explained to the site, "Demi felt like Selena wasn't always there for her and that the friendship wasn't reciprocated."
Selena announced her engagement to Benny via an Instagram post on Wednesday, December 11. The 32-year-old actress/singer flashed a radiant smile in several photos while giving a look at her engagement ring. "forever begins now.., " she captioned the photos.
The ring, which features a large marquise diamond, is estimated to be worth around $225,000. The jewelry piece is also believed to be a subtle nod to Selena's hit "Good for You", which lyrics include marquise diamond.
Ann Grimmett, Jared expert and VP of Merchandising at Jared Jewelers, revealed the significance of the shape in a press release, "Selena Gomez's engagement ring is fitting for a talent as rare as hers given less than 5% of diamonds are marquise." She explained, "The shape represents that what's old is new again, with a history dating back to the 18th century, but also represents the trend to elongated fancies that we have seen growing rapidly over the past few years."
