The film, which also features standout performances by Kiernan Shipka, Brenda Song, Billie Lourd, and Jamie Lee Curtis, follows Shelly and her fellow dancers as they face an uncertain future. Anderson's character must also confront her estranged relationship with her daughter.
Director Gia Coppola has drawn parallels between Anderson and late Hollywood legend, Marilyn Monroe, praising her as "the Marilyn of our time" after watching her revealing documentary "Pamela: A Love Story." Coppola recognized Anderson's talent and hunger to showcase her abilities.
"The Last Showgirl" is set to expand to select theaters in January after its limited release on December 13. The Golden Globe Awards will air live on January 5, 2025, where Anderson will compete in the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama category.
