AceShowbiz - Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy had never met his parents prior to his devastating death. If a new report is to be trusted, the TikTok star's first meeting with her late boyfriend's parents was at his funeral.
According to sources cited by The Mirror, Kate only met Liam's father Geoff and mother Karen for the first time when they bid their final farewell to the former One Direction member on Wednesday, November 20. Kate arrived at St Mary's Church in Amersham, Buckinghamshire with her friend Damian Hurley, while Karen stayed close to Geoff during the funeral service.
For the funeral, Liam's One Direction bandmates, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, gathered for the first time since Zayn's exit and the group's subsequent disbandment. Simon Cowell, Liam's ex Cheryl Cole, James Corden and Kimberley Walsh of Girls Aloud were also spotted among mourners.
During the funeral, Liam's casket arrived in a horse-drawn white carriage. Simon was seen sharing an emotional moment with the late singer's parents. The former "The X Factor" judge, who came with his longtime partner Lauren Silverman, appeared to break down in tears while sharing a hug with Geoff and Karen.
Kate had been with Liam in Buenos Aires in October, before she returned to Miami alone. She was not with him at the time of his death, explaining that she didn't like being away from home for too long and felt she was ready to get back into her own routine.
In the wake of Liam's passing, Kate reportedly has been leaning on her friend Damian. The model son of Elizabeth Hurley has been her "shoulder to cry on," according to a report. "They have an incredible bond and Kate wanted somebody by her side on the day," said a source.
Meanwhile, the four remaining members of One Direction are said to have formed a new Whatsapp group so they can check in on each other. A source revealed, "Liam's death has brought into sharp focus just how low someone can sink in almost plain sight and the lads have vowed that they won't let that happen again."
"Zayn has struggled for years with his well-being and has even admitted that he rarely goes out if he's not feeling too great," the source added. "... They have all agreed to make regular contact with one another from now and Zayn is the top priority due to his vulnerabilities."
