After gathering to celebrate her father's life, Davis paid tribute to his memory, revealing that Atkinson had left detailed instructions for a "beautiful celebration" complete with a jazz band. She also shared that the family discovered new facets of Atkinson's extraordinary life during the gathering.
Born in a cabin on a North Carolina river, Atkinson was passionate about psychology and dedicated his career to delivering speeches worldwide. "He was brilliant and bright and people loved him," Davis wrote.
For the past decade, Atkinson battled Parkinson's disease, a progressive brain disorder that causes uncontrollable movements and balance issues. Davis acknowledged the unwavering "devotion" of her mother and expressed gratitude for the support from doctors, nurses, and home healthcare workers.
"I'm so grateful for the support he got, and the perseverance he showed in a very real and difficult struggle," Davis stated.
She concluded her post, "Thinking of our whole family and especially my Mom. We love you dad and we are so grateful you lit up our lives and left us with so much."
