AceShowbiz - Machine Gun Kelly, 34, has embarked on a transformative journey, both personally and professionally. Speaking to PEOPLE ahead of the 2024 People's Choice Country Awards, where he's a nominee and performer, MGK shared insights into his sobriety journey, emphasizing a significant shift in his mindset.
"I had to zoom out and take a look at myself from a holistic perspective," he explained. Struggling with the generational curses and issues passed down to him, Kelly found solace in his commitment to becoming a good man for his daughter, Casie, and his loved ones.
On Bunnie Xo's podcast "Dumb Blonde", Kelly revealed that he is "completely sober from everything," a journey inspired in part by his daughter, who candidly acknowledged his substance abuse when she was about 11 or 12 years old. The support of his partner Megan Fox has been instrumental in dealing with psychological withdrawals, Kelly noted. He also appeared on the "Million Dollaz Worth of Game" podcast, where he discussed the challenges and rewards of breaking his addiction.
At the 2024 PCCAs held at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry House on Thursday, September 26, Kelly showcased a striking new look that perfectly matched his punk rock persona. Stepping out solo, he sported a black leather vest, high-waist pleated trousers and a two-tone blonde and black hairdo resembling a modern-day Cruella de Vil. His sartorial choices exuded confidence, even amidst ongoing speculations about his relationship with Megan Fox.
Kelly's foray into country music has also been a notable shift. Recently, he collaborated with Jelly Roll on the track "Lonely Road", with Megan Fox starring in the music video. Additionally, he covered The Chicks' "There's Your Trouble", showcasing his versatility as an artist. Alongside renowned artists like Brad Paisley, Kane Brown and Keith Urban, Kelly's performance at the PCCAs highlighted his evolving musical identity.
Though Kelly and Fox's relationship has had its ups and downs, Fox maintained on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast that she feels an unbreakable connection to him. "There will always be a tether to him, no matter what," she said, acknowledging the profound, albeit sometimes tumultuous, bond they share.
The 2024 PCCAs, broadcast live on NBC and Peacock, offered fans a glimpse into MGK's ongoing evolution. From his holistic approach to sobriety to his daring new style, Machine Gun Kelly's journey is a testament to personal growth and resilience.
