Naomi Campbell, the iconic supermodel known for her stunning runway appearances, is facing a significant setback as her charity organization is engulfed in controversy over alleged financial misconduct.

AceShowbiz - Naomi Campbell has been banned from serving as a charity trustee for five years following an investigation by the UK's Charity Commission after a significant financial mismanagement was uncovered within her organization, Fashion for Relief. The charity, founded in 2005 to support disaster relief and other humanitarian causes, has now been dissolved after a series of star-studded events failed to deliver on its philanthropic promises.
In their report, the Charity Commission found that only a mere 8.5% of the charity's overall expenditure between April 2016 and July 2022 went towards charitable grants.
The commission criticized the charity's trustees, including Campbell, for not reviewing the operating model to ensure that fundraising efforts were in the charity's best interest and that associated costs were reasonable. Instead, funds were allegedly spent on lavish hotel stays, spa treatments, personal security, cigarettes, and other personal expenses for the supermodel.
Alongside Campbell, fellow trustees Bianka Hellmich and Veronica Chou have also faced the consequences of the investigation. Hellmich has been banned from holding a charity trustee role for nine years after receiving unauthorized payments exceeding $388,000 in consultancy fees. Chou, on the other hand, has been banned for four years.
The commission's probe resulted in nearly $400,000 being recovered and donated to Save the Children and the Mayor's Fund for London.
Despite the scandal, Campbell recently received an award for her humanitarian works at Harlem's Fashion Row event, where she was met with a jab from Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour about her punctuality. "I am a very punctual person, and I have the honor of presenting tonight to someone who is often late," Wintour said in her speech before immediately leaving the event.
Campbell was eventually presented the award by Harper's Bazaar Editor-in-Chief Samira Nasr, and the supermodel clapped back at the Vogue editor. "It wasn't my choice to have the other lady. I'd much rather have this," she motioned towards Nasr.
While the supermodel's legacy remains influential, the controversy surrounding Fashion for Relief poses a challenge to her reputation. However, Campbell's resilience and dedication to making amends might yet see her overcome this hurdle and continue to make impactful contributions to society.
