AceShowbiz - Hulu has officially announced the commencement of production on the sixth and final season of "The Handmaid's Tale" The news was revealed on Friday, September 6, with a photo of star Elisabeth Moss holding the clapboard for the first episode. Moss will also direct this episode, having previously directed six episodes across seasons four and five.

The final season is scheduled to premiere in spring 2025, marking a gap of approximately 2.5 years since the season five finale aired in November 2022. Production had initially been slated to resume in fall 2023, but was delayed due to writer and actor strikes.

Season six will follow June (Moss) and other refugees from Gilead as they flee Toronto in search of safe passage out of Canada. Showrunner Bruce Miller stepped down from his duties in 2023, but will remain as an executive producer. The final season will be steered by writers and executive producers Eric Tuchman and Yahlin Chang.

In addition to Moss, the season six cast includes Yvonne Strahovski (Serena Joy Waterford), Bradley Whitford (Commander Lawrence), Max Minghella (Nick), Ann Dowd (Aunt Lydia), O.T. Fagbenle (Luke), Samira Wiley (Moira), Madeline Brewer (Janine), Amanda Brugel (Rita), Sam Jaeger (Mark Tuello), Ever Carradine (Naomi Putnam) and Josh Charles.

"The Handmaid's Tale" is produced by MGM Television, with Miller, Warren Littlefield, Moss, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, Tuchman, Chang, Rachel Shukert, Sheila Hockin, John Weber, Frank Siracusa, Steve Stark, and Kim Todd serving as executive producers. The series is based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood.
