AceShowbiz - Andre 3000 did not participate in the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar battle. However, he recently expressed his feelings about the situation, revealing that it left him with a sense of sadness.
In an interview with Crack Magazine, Andre 3000 explained that the elevated stakes in today's rap industry make beefing a risky proposition. He lamented the potential damage to the livelihoods of the artists' employees and the businesses built around them.
"If you don't have anything to lose, sure, go for it," he said, "But if I already made it, I'm not sure it's even worth it anymore."
Andre 3000 contrasted the carefree rap battles of his youth to the high-octane clashes of today. "You got people with 100 employees," he pointed out. "You have livelihoods, empires, companies, deals - all of it can be jeopardized."
Despite his distance from the battle, both Drake and Kendrick Lamar hold Andre 3000 in high regard. Kendrick Lamar referenced him on his diss song "Like That," a nod that Andre 3000 appreciated. "As a 49-year-old rapper, you're just happy to get a shoutout," he said.
Other artists have also weighed in on the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar beef. Mulatto expressed admiration for the back-and-forth, while acknowledging the intensity of the rivalry. "I liked it- I liked the back-and-forth. I thought it was healthy for the culture," she said. "But I also think people get too in it."
Snoop Dogg praised both artists for raising the bar in the rap game. "As far as what they did for the industry and the rap game, they made you rap again," he said. "You can't mumble your way and gimmick your way to a song no more, buddy. So, thank y'all."
Meanwhile, the likes of Questlove and Steve Wonder was not so impressed by the feud. They said there were more important things in this world for people to focus on.
Andre 3000's perspective highlights the complexities of the music industry and the potential consequences of rap battles in the modern era. As an elder statesman of hip-hop, his words carry weight and offer a sobering reminder of the importance of caution and diplomacy.
