Jerry Rice remains defiant following a recent confrontation involving some reporters. The NFL legend said he had his own reason why he threatened the media members for asking a question bout the Kansas City Chiefs at the American Century Championship.
On Thursday, July 11, two men who identified themselves as reporters from Starcade Media asked Rice, "Do the Chiefs have a good enough receiving corps to win again?" In response, the 61-year-old argued, "You're a f**king a**hole, you know that?"
In a video published by TMZ Sports, the former football wide receiver then fumed, "I will fuck you up." He also stressed, "If you want some, come get some!"
On Friday, Jerry clarified to TMZ that the two men were trying to trigger him by smirking while asking him about the team that beat the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl. "I'm going to defend the San Francisco 49ers," he told the outlet. "This is my history."
"We meant absolutely no disrespect to Jerry or the 49ers when asking this question," they said. They added that they'd love the opportunity to discuss things further with the Hall of Famer.
In a video shared by the reporters, they asked, "Do the Chiefs have a good enough receiver core to win again?" Starcade Media itself has issued a statement on the situation.
"We meant absolutely no disrespect to Jerry or the 49ers when asking this question as we have a profound respect for the great players that have played this game, especially (in our opinion) the greatest receiver of all time," it read. "The confrontation that followed was very unfortunate but we were not trying to elicit a negative reaction and there were no 'smirks' as Mr. Rice suggested."
"We simply wanted the input of the greatest receiver in league's history about the Chiefs receiving corps," the message added. "And if it had improved enough to continue winning at a high level after an historically rough season for the group."
