AceShowbiz - Princess Kate Middleton, a patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, makes regular appearances at Wimbledon. Despite undergoing cancer treatment, Wimbledon organizers remain hopeful that she can continue her tradition of presenting trophies to the tournament's champions.
"We're hopeful that the Princess of Wales will be able to present the trophies as the Club's patron, but her health and recovery is the priority," said Debbie Jeans, chair of the club, to Telegraph Sport. "We don't know what we don't know. All we've said is that we'll work with her and give her as much flexibility as possible."
Since her cancer diagnosis in March, Kate has kept a low profile, only attending Trooping the Colour earlier this month. While that event marked her first public engagement in six months, it was not considered a return to royal duties. However, royal expert Hilary Fordwich believes Kate is keen on returning to her commitments, including Wimbledon.
"Her next goal is... to attend the Wimbledon Championships at the All England Law Tennis Club starting July 1," Fordwich told Fox News Digital. "[She] will participate in most major matches, later handing out trophies to the winners."
Wimbledon officials have stated that they will not make a decision on trophy presenters until the morning of the finals. Kate, who has attended Wimbledon nearly every year since marrying Prince William in 2011, has a passion for tennis and has even handed out trophies at the event in the past.
While Kate has not officially returned to public life, she has stated in a personal letter that she is "starting to do a little work from home" and hopes to attend public engagements during the summer. Any future appearances will depend on her health and medical guidance.
