Christopher Storer was among the winners at the annual event as he earned the trophy of Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy Series for "The Bear". Picking up the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Movies for Television and Limited Series honor was Sarah Adina Smith for "Lessons in Chemistry".
DGA president Lesli Linka Glatter kicked off the event with an acknowledgment of the SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America strikes that forced studios to suspend productions for six months in 2023. "This year members need that connection [at the DGA Awards} over our shared craft even more now, because the last year was so f**king challenging. That was not on the teleprompter," Lesli said.
Lesli went on to highlight several issues that creative unions still need to address, including advances in AI. She noted that the DGA became the first union in the U.S. to achieve contract protections regarding the growing technology, stating, "We have never needed the protection and strength of the DGA more."Full Winner List of 2024 DGA Awards
