In a world of perfect pink plastic and perpetual celebration, Barbie lives a flawless life in Barbieland, a vibrant matriarchy where every day is the best day ever. Portrayed by Margot Robbie, this Stereotypical Barbie suddenly finds her routine disrupted by intrusive thoughts of mortality and a sudden, alarming development: her feet have gone flat. Seeking answers, she is directed by the eccentric Weird Barbie, played by Kate McKinnon, to venture into the real world, a journey on which her devoted but often overlooked beau, Ken (Ryan Gosling), insists on joining. Directed by Greta Gerwig, this inventive and visually stunning film explores the jarring collision between an idealized fantasy and complex reality. As Barbie discovers the joys and profound challenges of being human from a mother named Gloria (America Ferrera), Ken becomes enthralled by a very different concept of power, threatening the very fabric of Barbieland. With a sharp, witty script from Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, the film blends laugh-out-loud comedy with poignant drama, asking big questions about identity, purpose, and what it truly means to be perfect.
