AceShowbiz - Sam Smith appeared to have disappointed many social media users with their choice of clothes. After they hit the pink carpet at the "Barbie" premiere in an oversized ensemble, the "Too Good at Goodbyes" singer found themself trolled for wearing "worst outfit."
On Wednesday, July 12, the 31-year-old singer was spotted sporting an oversized sweatshirt and a pair of baggy pants when attending the movie premiere in London. The Internet was quickly buzzing over their red carpet getup with many turning to Twitter to share their thoughts. One in particular bluntly commented, "That's possibly the worst outfit I've ever seen."
Sam's outfit for the "Barbie" premiere was also shared via Instagram by @checkthetag. In the comments section of the July 12 post, one Instagram user complained, "The stunt ain't stuntin. Please stop, Sam. He has lost the message of his rebrand." Another shared similar reaction, writing, "This look works for the premiere. It's giving little kid wearing their parents' clothes. I see the vision."
Joining the complaint wagon, a third argued, "I think he's dressed like a kid in adult clothing to juxtapose the fact that barbie is an adult movie about something for kids. in some world, this is what a bunch of adults look like (including me [smiling face with heart-eyes emoji) being this excited about this movie lol."
For the London premiere, the "Writing's on the Wall" singer sported an oversized long-sleeved navy sweatshirt that came with "16 XL" graphics. They completed the look by adding a pair of baggy long light blue flared jeans. They further accessorized the outfit with a pair of earrings.
Sam attended the premiere just days after they announced their involvement in the movie. On Monday, July 10, they wrote in an Instagram post, "I cannot begin to express how incredibly excited I am to be a part of the soundtrack to this already iconic film. I was invited by the incredible @iammarkronson and Greta Gerwig to write a song from the perspective of Ken for one of the scenes and we honestly had so much fun with this."
Sam went on to share, "I cannot wait for you to hear what we've created together," adding flexed biceps and tongue emojis. Letting out more emojis including a red heart emoji, they continued, "Man I Am is out 21st July Along with @barbiethemovie @barbiethealbum BARBIE LAND HERE WE COME!!!!"
Their song "Man I Am" is set to be released on July 21, the same day "Barbie" is set to hit theaters across the U.S. and the United Kingdom.
