AceShowbiz - It's no secret that Eminem had a dark past. The Detroit rapper has been open about his addiction to prescription drugs, including Vicodin, Ambien and Valium, and often rapped about them. In December 2007, he was hospitalized after collapsing in his bathroom due to methadone overdose. He was told by doctors that he had ingested the equivalent of four bags of heroin and was "about two hours from dying."
His road to sobriety wasn't easy either. After he checked out of the facility, weak and not fully detoxed, his drug use "ramped right back to where it was before" within a month. The "8 Mile" star began to attend church meetings to get clean, but after he was asked for autographs, he sought help from a rehabilitation counselor. Elton John also played a role in this period, calling Eminem once a week to check on him. The rapper has been sober since April 2008.
