AceShowbiz - Alec Baldwin has spoken up on the need for police to be involved in production of TV shows and movies that use guns. In the wake of the fatal "Rust" shooting, the actor has called for at least an officer to "monitor weapon safety" on movie and TV sets.

"Every film/TV set that uses guns, fake or otherwise, should have a police officer on set, hired by the production, to specifically monitor weapons safety," so the former Donald Trump depicter on "Saturday Night Live" tweeted on Monday, November 8. He recently changed his Twitter account so that only users who follow him can read his tweets, but he has since posted the tweet on his Instagram page, which is still open for everyone.

Alec posted the tweet after he accidentally killed Halyna Hutchins during the filming of his western movie at the Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico on October 21. He discharged the gun being used as a prop, striking the cinematographer in the chest and director Joel Souza in the shoulder. The cinematographer was airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, where she was pronounced dead. Souza was admitted to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe and released the following morning.

In a statement released after the incident, Baldwin said, "I'm fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna."

The 63-year-old actor has been questioned by police, but no charges have been filed. The accident has sparked debates about working conditions on film sets.

Meanwhile, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson announced last week that real guns would no longer be used on sets for his movies.
