The Roots co-founder is offering his fans insight into his personal journey through his own words in an audiobook which is accompanied by an original score.

AceShowbiz - The Roots star Black Thought is taking fans down memory lane by releasing his autobiography exclusively as an audiobook.

The hip-hop legend has dropped "7 Years" as an Audible Original, allowing listeners to hear the rapper himself tell his story through his own words - all accompanied by an original score.

In a statement posted on social media, Black Thought explains the meaning behind the title by writing, "It's inspired by one of my life theories that every 7 years I should be actively working to become better creatively, emotionally, personally, and mentally as my body also changes and new cells replace the old."

"So in this piece of words and music I'm sharing some of these key important periods that have made me into the man I am today - with an original musical score that highlights the very first freestyle I ever wrote to our @theroots classics to performances of some of my more recent pieces (sic)."

"7 Years" was released on the streaming platform on Thursday (08Jul21).

The rapper said the project had been "almost two years in the making."

The audiobook came a year after he released his debut studio album "Streams of Thought, Vol. 3: Cane & Able". It featured the likes of Pusha T, Swizz Beatz, Killer Mike, Portugal. The Man, The Last Artful, Dodgr, and Schoolboy Q.

"The producer, Sean C, his last name is Cane," he explained the meaning behind the album title. "He's quite literally Sean Cane. And me being one of the most able MCs, it's a play on words as a nod to my ability and to him actually being Cane. And then also too, just a sign of the times, so to speak, and the original sin, I guess. It spoke to all those different things, so it made perfect sense to subtitle the album."
