The 'Lose You to Love Me' singer says that she has decided to openly share about 'personal parts' of her life because 'people were taking away my narrative and it was killing me.'

AceShowbiz - Selena Gomez had had enough of unwanted attention toward her love and life. Having been under the spotlight for almost her entire life, the "Lose You to Love Me" hitmaker slammed media's coverage of her that "got out of control."
Talking to Amy Schumer for the Spring 2020 issue of Interview magazine, the 27-year-old explained why she decided to openly share the personal parts of her life. "My intention was never to become a tabloid. So when things kind of happened that way, it got out of control. And then I was like, 'Wait, none of this is true,' " she confided.
"The way the media has sometimes tried to explain things has made it sound really bad, when in reality there's nothing wrong with the fact that I needed to go away or that I fell in love," the former Disney star continued. "I had to start opening up because people were taking away my narrative and it was killing me. I'm so young and I'm going to keep changing, and no one has the right to tell me how my life's going."
During the chat, Schumer additionally brought up the fact that Gomez has helped a lot of people to understand "their own mental health issues." When asked if it was her "calling," the ex-girlfriend of Justin Bieber simply responded, "I don't know if that was ever meant to be my role, but I love people. I care, a lot."
The former star of "Wizards of Waverly Place", who was open about her lupus diagnosis, went on to recall her own experiences in going "through a lot of medical issues, and I know that I can reach people who are going through similarly scary things - an organ transplant, or being on dialysis, or going away for treatment." She added, "A huge part of why I have a platform is to help people."
"That's why I think I'm okay with the magnitude, I mean, I'm not really okay with it - but I'm going to say that I am because it's worth it," the "Boyfriend" singer said. She went on to note that if she could make "someone somewhere feel good, or feel understood or heard," it was "worth it" for her.
