Celebrating New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art's 150th anniversary, the annual star-studded fashion event will have a theme of 'About Time: Fashion and Duration'.

AceShowbiz - Meryl Streep has been named alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda and Emma Stone as a chair of the 2020 Met Gala - and will attend the star-studded bash for the first time ever.

The three-time Oscar-winner has surprisingly never attended the fashion event, which next year will celebrate New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art's 150th anniversary, and will have a theme of 'About Time: Fashion and Duration'.

Streep will do so alongside Miranda, Stone, Louis Vuitton creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere of Louis Vuitton, and Vogue U.S. editor Anna Wintour, who Streep famously played a fictionalised version of in 2006 movie "The Devil Wears Prada".

Past stars to have chaired the gala include Harry Styles, Rihanna, Amal Clooney, Serena Williams, Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman.

Explaining this year's theme, Andrew Bolton, the head of the museum's Costume Institute told Vogue its inspiration came from Virginia Woolf's time-travelling novel "Orlando" and a 1992 Sally Potter film adaptation.

The gala will be held on May 4, with the 'About Time: Fashion and Duration' show running from May 7 until September 7, 2020.
